- What is the Forum?
Walkley Community Forum was set up by local people to allow local people to come together to speak up for and promote civic pride in Walkley.Formed in the late 90's by a small group of local residents who were concerned
that Walkley often seemed to miss out or be forgotten within the City,
the Forum meets monthly to discuss issues of local interest and concern.
- Membership is free and open to all who share
our aims and are willing to work in cooperation with others. We include
people who live locally and those from elsewhere who have a particular
interest in Walkley, eg traders and workers.
A wide range of local groups are already represented among the regular
attenders at Forum meetings, these include:
- Fir Street Community Centre.
- Walkley Library and its highly active Supporters group.
- Friends of Ruskin Park.
- Bole Hills Conservation Group.
- The Workers Education Association.
- Political parties such as the Labour Party & the Liberal Democrats.
- Local Councilors and representatives of the council's local Area Panel.
- Local Churches such as St. Mary's C. of E. & Ebineezer Methodists.
- And many more.... (see 'links to other groups' page for details)
Or just yourself: many local residents simply
attend on their own behalf, to speak up for their own and their neighbours'
interests.

We aren't tied to:
any political party. We value the excellent support of representatives of political parties, but we are politically independent. Forum attendance is open to all who share our aims
and can work in cooperation with others in the interests and
welfare of Walkley.
-
any religious organisation. We welcome and value the active support and involvment of our local faith communities.
-
the City Council. We welcome (and are grateful to) local
councillors who attend our meetings, and we're proud that the Council have, over the years, listened to us.
